It is Giving Tuesday today and the San Diego Press Club is beginning its year end fundraising campaign. This year, we have a robust campaign with a goal of raising $15,000. These funds are necessary, not only to help the San Diego Press Club survive, but to thrive in 2026.
We have a vigorous board with high expectations in 2026! We are already forming committees for next year’s awards, professional development for our members, and social events to keep our members connected and current with today’s media landscape.
Although our expenses have grown along with the economy, it has operated at pre-pandemic levels. The cost of membership, award entries, and the annual awards has not changed since before the pandemic, and the last thing we want to do is to raise prices for our members.
There are several ways that SDPC members can help us reach these goals. Having the ability to cover the yearly operations of the club, not raise our prices, and hopefully help build our reserves.
Donate. No amount is too small or too large and is tax deductible. These donations can be a one-time donation, or to make it easier, a smaller reoccurring donation.
Join the Honorary Committee. If you have yet to join our Honorary Committee, please consider doing so. These funds are primarily used to ensure that we can provide our two scholarships each year to a deserving four-year and two-year student in San Diego County. Supporting future journalism is one of our primary missions. Being on the Honorary Committee also has its perks. Early entrance to our yearly Excellence in Journalism Awards, and with enough funds, provide special events for the committee during the year.
Join or renew your membership. SDPC is a membership-driven organization. Keeping your membership up to date is beneficial in many ways. Members pay lower rates for our annual award entries and stay informed of everything else that the SDPC does throughout the year, and our membership dues are a primary source of constant income into the nonprofit.
There are other ways to give back to the SDPC. We can utilize and cultivate the many talents that our membership can offer. And giving back your time is as important as your money.
Become a board member. We currently have open positions on our board. It is a working board, and we draw from the talents of its directors to bring the best to the organization and its members.
Serve on one of our committees. We have several committees that run throughout the year to complete the mission of the SDPC. You do not have to be on the Board of Directors to serve on a committee, and we have the experience and training to ensure that committee members help make a difference in the club’s yearly activities.
Are you interested in making our annual Excellence in Journalism Awards a success, and an event that is memorable and profitable for the club and its members? Join our Awards Committee.
Do you have the knack for maintaining relationships with the community outside of the club. We can utilize your experience on our Sponsorship Committee. Without our sponsors each year, the club could not exist or provide our yearly awards competition and event.
Do you have ideas for professional development and social events during the year? Join our Professional Development & Social Events Committee.
Are you a social media savant with the ability to engage people with interactive and productive social media? Help us use our social media networks to engage our members, keep them informed, and pull more membership into the club. Join our Communications/Community Relations Committee.
